Your Endocannabinoid System

Your brain and body are powered by a complex system of receptors, known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that interacts with almost every other system in the body. The body creates endocannabinoids, or chemical compounds, that interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors located throughout these systems to help regulate appetite, digestion, energy reproduction, muscle control, memory, and the modulation of pain, sleep and stress. However, stress and myriad of other factors can throw this delicate system off balance, interfering with your sense of wellbeing. Plant-derived cannabinoids, taken via supplementation, act on the ECS receptors throughout the body and help maintain function to this network, promoting balance in your body to support optimal health and wellness.

Cannabinoid Sources

A valuable source of phytocannabinoids (plant-derived cannabinoids) is the hemp plant. The hemp plant contains higher concentrations of cannabinoids than most other plants. Plus, the hemp plant contains an arsenal of other beneficial chemicals that work together to enhance the benefits of the cannabinoids, such as terpenes and flavonoids. In research, testing, and product development, Twinlab prioritizes a full-spectrum hemp extract, which is an extraction of all (or many) cannabinoid compounds from the hemp plant. Together, these cannabinoids act on both the body’s CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors to influence mood, memory, pain and digestion.

CBD Benefits

Cannabidiol (CBD) is only 1 of over 113 phytocannabinoid compounds found in the hemp plant and is the cannabinoid in the highest concentration in the hemp plant, which is why this cannabinoid is studied so extensively. Important to note, much of the research around CBD is done on using a full-spectrum phytocannabinoid blend with a defined amount of CBD present. With the exploding popularity of the medical use of CBD extracts, research has shown great benefits for sleep, stress-induced anxiety and temporary pain.

Current research shows that CBD can influence the brain’s anti-anxiety chemicals such as GABA and serotonin to combat stress, improve REM and deep sleep to help you wake refreshed, modulate pain receptor response and decrease inflammation caused by overexertion so you can bounce back to your active lifestyle.
